Traditionaly an important fishing and comercial point, Portimão transformed itselfe in one of the most famous beach destinations in the Algarve and in one modern city that offers fabulous beaches, close to the natural beauty of the Alvor estuary and lots of animations.
The attraction of the area resides in the amazing diversity of its interior and beaches. The sun and sea lovers can choose between the more extensive beaches, like the famous Praia da Rocha, or any other smaller and sheltered like the Prainha, that its located west from the city. Many of the Portimão beaches are sorrounded by golden cliffs, with incredible outcroppings that delight the divers.
The Alvor beach, the further west zone beach of Portimão, is totaly diferent. There are no cliffs or rocks, intead you will find withe sand dunes that separates the ocean from the lagoons and swamps of the Alvor estuary.
The protected area around the estuary is a location that it's worth the visit.It's mudflats and channels are visited by numerous species of migrator birds and offer a tranquility sensation different from all the excitment at the resorts along the coast.

The beach lovers will be close to Rocha beach, where they will find many facilities, like bars, cofee shops, restaurants and shops, also many aquatic sports that they can choose.
